Named one of the “UK’s top five triathlon bases”, Anglesey boasts a rich countryside with breathtaking scenery. The Amazing Sandman Trail Triathlon takes place on the 22nd of September. It is the second event in a series, the previous being Snowdonia Slateman. The venue of the sandman race is Newborough forest, within an exclusive area Next to to Llanddwyn Beach.

Newborough Forest is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so the race route is certainly a sight to behold.

Regardless of your fitness or skill there is a challenge in this event for everyone. Composed of two different distances, these are the Full Sandman and the Sandman Sprint. You are permitted to act as a relay team in each distance.

The Full Sandman consists of a 1000m Sea Swim off Llanddwyd Beach, a 1000m Road Cycle round a circular route taking riders through Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, before going back along the west coast of Anglesey. There is then a 10km Trail Run along Llanddwyn forest trails, sand dunes and the beach; making for an interesting mixture of terrain.

The sandman sprint is the shorter part of the event, which consists of a 400m sea swim off Llandwyn Beach, a 18km Road Cycle which heads towards Llanfairpwl before turning back through Llangaffo. Finally it’s a 5km Trail Run along Llandwyn Forest Trails, sand dunes and beach.

There will also be a Junior Sandman; a triathlon, in partnership with Anglesey Sports Development Tram.
